The Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) at Feng Chia University (FCU) is the best choice for studying in the risk management, insurance and actuary field. The department is established in 1963, and is the first in all of Greater China to establish a department and graduate institute of insurance. The Institute of Insurance, established in 1971, is also the first established institute and department in Taiwan. With increasing risks in global financial market, various new financial and insurance commodities are kept being introduced; besides, the opening of Taiwan’s financial market causes significantly increased requirements of financial engineering and insurance actuary talents in the society. Therefore, the master’s program has been divided into “Program of Risk Management and Insurance” and “Program of Quantitative Risk Management”, which the former is in the field of risk management and insurance and the latter focuses on the field of actuary. In 2016, the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) actuarial program was established for the benefit of master’s students in the Department of Risk Management and Insurance. This program was designed for students from ASEAN countries who plan to meet the staffing needs of Taiwanese insurance companies, especially those with ASEAN subsidiaries. Courses offered in the program cover all requirements for Associate Society of Actuaries (ASA) membership (Exams/VEE/Module Test), with all courses delivered in English. In addition to scholarships provided by FCU, a cooperative education program sponsored by Cathay Life insurance was established exclusively for Vietnamese students.

Over the past more than 50 years, we have cultivated thousands of insurance professionals and this department has earned the respect and praise of the insurance industry. Outstanding alumni continue to maintain close ties with their alma mater. This is one of the reasons that this department has earned an outstanding reputation for the quality of its education both in Taiwan and in China. Today, many of the notable scholars in the field of insurance are Feng Chia alumni. In addition, a majority of insurance executives and insurance commissioners have graduated from this university. In fact, graduates of this department serve at all levels in enterprise, government and academia. Through the relationships with alumni, a large number of scholarships, internships and employment opportunities have been made available to students in this department.
